Truth on winning government grants

The plain truth about government grants is that you will not qualify for most of the grant money.

It is true what others are saying. The United States Government is giving out about 40 billion dollars in grants each year. However, you will not qualify for most of the government money as 98 percent of it is given to nonprofit organizations such as:

- County governments
- City or township governments
- Independent school districts
- State controlled institutions of higher education
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- Nonprofit groups which includes community action agencies and other organizations having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS
- Private institutions of higher education, or State funded Universities

So, what can you do to get some of the over 40 billion dollars in grant money that is handed out?

One of the first things you need to do is weed out the grants that do not apply to you and only write an application for the ones you do qualify for. You need to chose the grant that you would have the most success in winning. Also, you need to win a grant the first time you apply for it.

You might want to consider researching to see if you are qualified for an entitlement and what types of entitlements are available. Over 1.3 million people are qualified for an entitlement.

You should have your material for your budget request, application, project summary, and resources for your state's research gathered together for writing your grant.

Although many of the grants are earmarked for nonprofit organizations, there are many out there that you would qualify to get. You need to be mindful of certain rules and precautions before you write and apply for a grant.
